I bought a pattern to make a dress that I have made at least 6 of in the past, but unfortunately don’t have access to a single one of them in order to look at how I did it.
So now that I’ve checked the pattern I’m setting about altering it so that it conforms to a dress ready to wear on the stage and to be ready for the possibility of multiple wearers. For a start the pattern has a zip so the bodice has to be altered at the back to allow for a lap over and hooks and bars used instead. The skirt is far too long for dancing in and would be a serious trip hazard. The underskirt is totally separate so I think this is going to be a case of working it out as I go.
I’ve also booked a “Crafternoon” that is being held in the Foyer of the Linbury Theatre, organised by the Royal Opera House. Now I’m not sure what I’m going to learn in 3 hours but it promises that I will learn & try “Costumers’ Techniques” and that I will “Join members of the Royal Opera House Costume Department, who create, refurbish and conserve thousands of opera and ballet costumes per season, in this unique, participatory workshop.” I am looking forward to it.
