Apparently the booking that I had yesterday was a stand in for a speaker that had decided to retire due to ill health. I was booked in June. I’m always happy to accept short notice bookings if I can. After all I’ve had to cancel some of my own engagements for health reasons or funerals; I don’t do it lightly. I’ve always said that the job of a speaker secretary is a difficult one, so I’ll help if I can.
It prompted me to re-tell the story of when I stood in for Brian Murphy in 2022. Over 200 people turned up to be entertained by him as the website hadn’t been updated. Yesterday, there were fewer people, but an attentive audience all the same.
I had been preparing my new talk to give but they requested my most popular one again. I gave “A Peek Behind the Scenes” in 2016 to this group but 9 years later it is a very different talk indeed.
