Noisy afternoon at Redbridge pensioners’ forum. I was the 3rd invited speaker which made me anxious that they’d all be “all talked out” by the time I stood up to say anything. I needn’t have worried as They were an attentive and responsive audience. I gave a talk to them in December 2019 at the main Ilford library. The pandemic changed that as it became a vaccination hub. They had to find a new venue when they started up again and chose Fulwell Cross library. They lost members but gained others with the change of venue. they meet every two weeks and have a fairly large catchment area; I was informed that there was about 60 members there today. They’ve had to close their membership because the venue cannot cater for more.
I’ve not been to another club where I’ve been 3rd on the bill, or second for that matter. I always ask to speak before any business but on this occasion had to sit for over an hour before I got up to talk. They were all very friendly and given that I’m retired too it wasn’t a big problem. Other speakers might not be so happy to do that though.
