There were 63 women at today’s talk. I had been recommended by a woman from a group from way back in 2016. We had a lovely chat; apparently she has recommended me to several other groups resulting in quite a few talks. I was invited to stay for lunch after my talk which was very enjoyable. Chatting with a diverse group of women is a lovely way to finish. I think I prefer to talk first and eat afterwards but not many groups appear to do it that way round.
Whilst I was preparing my display of costumes a young woman came out of the kitchen to set some tables and stopped to admire the tutu. She related a lovely story. She had helped someone who had fainted at a bus stop, stopped to help and took the person home, refusing to let her get onto a bus after that episode. She was rewarded with a ticket to the ballet tonight. She’d never been before and didn’t know what to expect. I asked where and what she was going to see; I knew immediately which company it was when she told me the theatre. She was a young black woman and was really interested when I told her about Cassa Pancho and her creation of Ballet Black and how the dancers were so accomplished in their art. This really seemed to make a difference to her anticipation of her night out. I hope that she enjoyed it.
