PROBUS

  • by

I’ve got two bookings in May, both to PROBUS groups. Back when I started I had very few PROBUS talks but they seem to have come to the fore lately.

Since my last post I’ve given two more talks. St Luke’s Ladies Group in Tiptree and back to Roding Valley U3A. Around 60 women came to the talk in Tiptree, and as my husband accompanied me, I was able to make some jokes at his expense. He takes them in his stride. We had dinner first at the Blue Anchor in Coggeshall, so all in all a very pleasant evening.

My trip to Roding Valley U3A could have run slightly more smoothly. I was perturbed that I’d lost sound for one of my slides and at the very end of my talk my laptop popped up the message “your battery is low please plug in”. It was right at the end and I managed to finish the talk before it gave out completely. I couldn’t understand this at all as I’d given the lead to the “technical person” to plug in; except it wasn’t plugged in. Something I didn’t discover until I’d finished. I called for assistance with the sound though to make sense of my last slide and it turned out that the sound had been turned right down. It’s a difficult path to tread as the technical person likes to carry out their assigned duties. I usually try to check these things where I can; but its not always welcome.
