Talks like Buses

After so long of ZOOM talks and not meeting face-to-face, I’ve done 3 in October so far, with another next week.

Rayleigh Ladies PROBUS lunch at the Rayleigh golf club wasn’t without its funny moment. The lunch hadn’t even started when I arrived to set up, so it was clear that I’d have to amuse myself whilst waiting. It was a beautiful day and I thought what could be better than a pleasant walk in the sunshine. I enjoyed the peace and tranquility, watched the enormous carp leaping in the lake, until someone was shouting. I couldn’t hear what he was saying and didn’t take too much notice. He kept running towards me, frantically waving his arms. Aah! then I understood. He was shouting, “Don’t stand there love, you’ll get hit by a ball.” It hadn’t even crossed my mind! I’ll remember for the future that wandering around a golf course isn’t advisable.

The talk the next day was with Woodham Ferrers WI. They hadn’t been sure that they’d re-open but, after booking me for October I had a call from the speaker secretary to see if I could stand-in in September. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to but put them in touch with someone via the Facebook page for Speakers in Essex.

The noise level when I arrived was phenomenal; it was so good to hear and see these women, who’d been deprived of the comradeship of the group for so long
