What a large friendly group of people. I was very surprised to see quite so many people there given its semi rural location. The club was started 25 years ago by Keith, the village butcher, and his wife Sylvia; still very much in control.
They meet every two weeks and regularly attract 120 -150 members. Talks, presentations, entertainment and all sorts of outings are arranged, including 5 organised holidays a year. There was only about 120 present yesterday when I gave my talk as many members were away on one of these holidays.
They were selling eggs when I arrived and doing a roaring trade. Any left over are reserved in case the speaker or entertainment doesn’t come up to scratch 🙂 (I didn’t get any!) I did ask why they sold them and was informed that they always had; for the last 25 years.
Business was brief, Keith bringing the audience to attention with the biggest bell I’ve seen yet for such a purpose (eat your hearts out WI!).
