I really wanted to use the hot stones that I saw, and tried, at the ROH “Crafternoon” recently.
The Hot stones were easy enough to locate and purchase but the instructions advise ironing them onto the fabric. Making a costume, or a tutu especially, doesn’t lend itself to that method. One costume maker at the ROH said that one could use the plate of a domestic iron. That is fraught with the danger of receiving serious burns trying to get the iron stable, especially given the size and design of modern, domestic irons.
Then I remembered that I had purchased a travel iron (Oxymoron surely?) some years ago when traveling a lot for business. The benefit of this iron is the slide on handle, leaving a relatively flat plate. By putting it onto a folded towel I was able to achieve great stability and ease of use.
